DRAFT
Railroads in the Woods
I love this picture for it's sheer incongruity. If you built a model of this tiny logging lokie and painted it in 'ante-bellum' colours, it would look like something Disney turned out. [Indeed it was Disney's guys who advised the gaudy authentic paint jobs for the Golden Spike re-enactment.]
.
So, in the garden:
- 45mm gauge track
- maybe an Accucraft Forney mechanism
- clearly some woodwork to do
- plenty of space for radio gear
But that boiler is awful small to get the 'look'
This page explores the resources available for modelling North American logging railroads.

So this is where people could comment on the draft document above, be it a treatise or a modeling project? Interesting...

Yes, anyone with a PBworks account can add comments, suggestions, point us to other resources, correct factual innacuracies etc. Only restricted people are able to amend the document itself, though. One click from the email gets you to this reply box, plus you can always arrange an RSS feed if you want.

In fact, they can do this to ANY page, complete or not. The only requirement is to have a PBworks account. I wonder how many of our readers realise this. Perhaps it should be flagged up on the home page?

So..., someone makes a comment here, and the author can go back into their article and make additions, corrections, etc., according to their own understanding and it goes on from there..., ! I think the key will be building a MENU that structures the articles into groups under some topic logic, (this is the hardest part I believe) to make searching as intuitive as possible..., yes?

Yep, that's it. If I understand you correctly, the menu already exists in two forms - the Topic Index that I created, and the Navigator, to which every folder and page is added. If you scroll to the bottom, you should find that this page is there, under Work in progress/draft 1

This could be useful.

I've started a potential Real Page in the sandbox.

That looks suspiciously like a Crown Models 18" gauge engine..., doesn't it?

Looks like a good way to get additional material on the Wiki and was the sort of idea I had when I asked if material from a forum could be transfered. This seems to avoid the extra work and leaves the editing the responsability of the person who drafted the article. The recent activity column might get a bit too busy if more than on article was under way at a time, is there any way of just listing the the work in progress rather than all the posts or have a missed something?

OK I found the folder with the links, problem solved. I will try and engage brain before asking daft questions.

Good point Bill - I will see if there is a way to contro the recent activity list. Failing that, it isalways possible to star those pages you want updates to - and we could do more if we decided to upgrade it.

Still getting my head round this so bear with me please, suposing that I have an idea for an article but I want some addition material, say photos, that I currently do not have. Would I be able to start a draft page for the article explaining what I need and asking for contributions for the bits I needed?

Yes, you could, though I think we need to be careful not to have too many unfinished pages in the main area at one time. Bear in mind that the readership will be dissuaded, though not barred, from visiting Work in Progress. You might be better to ask members via the yahoo group as a first step - it's rare that no-one to comes up with anything. Then create what you can and post it with a request for further information. The unknown is how much public involvement we will acutally get.
